HOW TO GET INTO THIS BOOK

knock at the knocker on the door,

pull the bell at the side,
then, if you are very quiet,
you will hear a teeny tiny voice
say through the grating:
"take down the key!"
this you will find at the back;
you cannot mistake it,
for it has j.h. in the ward.
put the key in the keyhole,
which it fits exactly,
unlock the door
and walk in.

Klopf mit dem Klopfer an der Tür,
zieh die Glocke an der Seite.
Dann, wenn du ganz leise bist,
wirst du ein feines Stimmchen hören,
das durch das Gitter zu dir spricht:
"Nimm den Schlüssel herunter"
Du findest ihn auf der Rückseite,
du kannst ihn gar nicht verwechseln,
denn in seinem Bart ist "J.H" eingraviert.
Steck den Schlüssel in das Schloss,
er passt ganz genau,
öffne die Tür
und tritt ein
